Description

Wrexham, Wales born left back Samuel Davies started his senior career with Scottish amateur club Queen’s Park. He made his Scottish League debut against Airdrieonians in August 1921 and soon became a first team regular, scoring his only career goals in a 2-1 win over Motherwell at Hampden Park on the final day of 1921. He also played in Queen’s Park’s Merchants’ Charity Cup Final defeat to Rangers in May 1922. Having played 39 games for The Spiders during 1921-22 as they were relegated from the First Division, he was only selected twice more, both times in Second Division games the following October.

The same year Davies was selected to represent Wales at amateur level, winning a single cap. Late in 1922 Davies joined Scottish Cup holders Greenock Morton and made 23 appearances for The Ton before being signed by Manchester United in the summer of 1924. He spent three seasons in the reserves at Old Trafford but never made a first team appearance before signing for Third Division (North) club Crewe Alexandra in the 1927 close season, making his Football League debut against Halifax Town that August, playing three matches for The Railwaymen in the space of five days before the end of the month. This proved the sum total of his League career and he joined non league Altrincham in 1928, and played for Sandbach Ramblers in 1929 before his eventual retirement.
