Description
Goalkeeper TG Smith joined Queen’s Park from Shawlands Academy and was a regular in the Scottish amateur international XI while playing for Queen’s Park and subsequently Ayr United and St Bernard’s in the mid 1930’s. A tall goalkeeper for his time at 6 foot 2 inches, described at the time as “a giant”, he also represented The Scottish League against The Irish League in September 1933 in a 3-0 defeat at Windsor Park, Belfast. He was described thus: “A very safe type of goalkeeper, quick of hand and eye, Smith is a prime favourite at Hampden, and on quite a few occasions has been the hero of his side. His goalkeeping is sometimes very spectacular and provides a real thrill.”
