Description

Lathom, Lancashire botn centre half Harry Stringfellow began his football career with Burscough in 1895 before joining Southport Central in 1896. He joined Everton along with inside left Jack Kirwan in February 1898 for £130, but never made the first eleven at Goodison Park, and moved south to join Southern League Portsmouth in the 1899 close season, winning the Southern League Championship with them in 1902, making 151 appearances for Pompey before joining Swindon Town in the summer of 1904, where he was appointed club captain.

He made 32 appearances for The Robins during a single season at The County Ground before returning north to join newly elected Second Division club Leeds City, for whom he made his Football League debut in their inaugural League fixture at Bradford City in September 1905. Linesman in the Leeds Mercury: “In Stringfellow, the Leeds club have got a highly skilled centre, who fully appreciates his duties, both as to attack and defence.” However he only stayed one season at Elland Road, scoring once in 16 appearances.

He signed for non league Wigan Town in September 1906 but a few weeks later he joined First Division Preston North End for £40, scoring twice in 42 appearances for North End over his two seasons at Deepdale before returning to Wigan Town in the summer of 1908. He finally joined Ormskirk in 1909 where he finished his playing career.
