Description

Selly Oak, Birmingham born.outside right Charlie Tickle began his football career with Selly Oak St Mary’s in 1900 and played for Bournbrook in 1901 before joining Second Division Small Heath in January 1902, making his Football League debut at Gainsborough Trinity that October, one of two appearances he made during Birmingham’s 1902-03 promotion season. He began to establish himself as a regular member of the Small Heath team from January 1905, and such were the level of his performances that he was selected to represent The Football League in a 2-0 victory over The Scottish League at Villa Park in February 1908.

He remained at St Andrew’s until the summer of 1908, by when the club, which had changed its name to Birmingham in 1906, had suffered relegation, and he joined Southern League Coventry City in the summer of 1908 after 14 goals in 91 appearances for The Blues.

He scored 20 goals in 125 games for Coventry over the next three seasons at Highfield Road, before moving to Bristol Rovers in 1911, where he spent a further two seasons. In 1913 he returned to the Midlands, joining non league Worcester City, where he finished his career, retiring in 1915.
