Mansfield born winger George Turner played for Mansfield Athletic in 1928 and Sneinton in 1929 before joining Third Division (South) Notts County in the 1930 close season, making his Football League debut at Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in January 1931, scoring in a 2-1 defeat, and playing twice more over the next 10 days in what were to be his only appearances for The Magpies. Although they won the Third Division (South) Championship that season, he was not retained and joined Luton Town in the summer of 1931, where he scored 4 times in 17 appearances during 1931-32.
He was then signed by First Division Everton in the summer of 1932 and although mainly a reserve he made two first team appearances either side of the 1933 new year, both games ending in defeats. Released in 1934 he joined Second Division Bradford City, scoring twice in 16 appearances before a return to Luton Town in the 1935 close season. He had scored once in only 4 more appearances for The Hatters when he was signed by Northampton Town in March 1936, scoring on his debut in a defeat to Millwall and scoring 3 goals in 23 appearances before joining non league Newark Town in 1938.
