Description

Wolsingham, County Durham born wing half Gordon Watson began his football career with Blyth Spartans in 1932 before joining First Division Everton in January 1933. He had to wait four years to make his Football League  debut at Brentford in January 1937, one of two appearances he made that season. He scored his only career goal for Everton in a 3-1 win over Blackpool at Goodison Park in January 1938 and established himself as a regular in the first team from February 1939, playing 17 times in the campaign that saw Everton win the League Championship.

However his career was significantly interrupted by the Second World War which forced the abandonment of peacetime football, but he played both sides of the War for The Toffees, making 22 appearances in 1947-48 before eventually retiring in 1948. After retirement he spent 20 years at Goodison Park as a coach, eventually leaving the club in 1968.
