Burnbank, Lanarkshire born centre forward Jack Young played for Burnbank Athletic from 1909 before signed by First Division Bradford City, for whom he made his Football League debut against Nottingham Forest in October 1910. Young scored 8 goals in 9 appearances for The Bantams in his debut season, including a hat-trick against Sheffield Wednesday in a 5-2 win in April 1911, but didn’t play in any of their FA Cup ties as the club won the FA Cup for the only time in its history. However he only featured once more for Bradford the following season before being sold to Sunderland in December 1911, scoring on his debut in a 3-2 win over West Bromwich Albion at Roker Park. However he lost his place at the end of March and after two goals in 15 appearances he moved to Port Vale in the summer of 1912, then playing in the Central League, where he had a single season before returning to Lanarkshire to join Hamilton Academical in 1913.
NB apologies for the quite worn and stained image of a relatively rarely photographed player.
