Description

Troedyrhiw, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan born goalkeeper Dai Jones had a brief professional career that started with hometown Third Division (South) club Merthyr Town as understudy to Albert Lindon, for whom he made his Football League debut against Gillingham in October 1921, making 8 appearances for them with a run of 5 matches in October and 3 more either side of Christmas Day.

Jones joined Chesterfield in the summer of 1922 where he was again understudy, this time to Cyril Hibberd, and he played 9 matches for The Spireites including featuring in three of their four FA Cup ties, as Chesterfield finished fourth in the Third Division (North). He then moved on to Lincoln City in the 1923 close season, but only featured in 3 more fixtures for The Imps in April 1924, the principal goalkeeper for Lincoln that season being Jack Kendall. He returned to Welsh League football with Penrhiwceiber in 1924 and played for Barry Town in 1925 before a final spell with Stockport County, where he didn’t make a first team appearance, before leaving the professional game.
