Description

Llandaff, Cardiff born wing half Herbie Evans signed for Second Division Cardiff City from junior club Cardiff Corinthians, whom he had joined in 1919, making his Football League debut in March 1921 against Leeds United during their run in to promotion to the First Division at their first time of asking as a Football League club. He became a first team regular over the next three seasons and won the first of 6 Wales caps over a two year period against Scotland at The Racecourse Ground, Wrexham in February 1922.

However he suffered a broken leg in 1924 and didn’t return until February 1926, playing only 3 more games for Cardiff before a move to Tranmere Rovers in the summer of 1926 after 2 goals for The Bluebirds in 109 appearances. On Merseyside he was ever present during his first season but unfortunately broke his other leg in August 1927 and was forced to retire after 46 appearances for Rovers.
