Wolverhampton born inside left Albert Lewis joined Stafford Rangers in 1902 and transferred to Second Division club West Bromwich Albion in June 1904. He made his Football League debut at Burnley in September 1904, sensationally scoring a hat-trick in a 4-1 win, scoring 6 goals in 27 appearances during his debut season. However he made only 2 further appearances for The Baggies before joining Southern League club Coventry City for £50 in June 1906.
He stayed two seasons at Highfield Road before joining Northampton Town in 1908, where he was part of their Southern League Championship winning team of 1908-09, the club finishing as runners up in the League the following season. He played in the 1909 FA Charity Shield which Northampton Town lost 2-0 to League Champions Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge in April 1909. He also represented The Southern League in 1910.
He scored 90 goals in 179 appearances for The Cobblers and he is still Northampton’s 7th all time record goalscorer, before re-joining West Bromwich Albion for £50 in May 1913, He scored 3 more goals for Albion in 19 appearances, before joining North Eastern League club South Shields for £50 in March 1914. After serving in the Army during the First World War, he rejoined Northampton Town in December 1919 before retiring from football in May 1920.
