Description

West Bromwich born diminutive centre forward Jackie Mann began his football career with Great Bridge Juniors in 1907 and played for Great Bridge Celtic from August 1911, also playing for Hurst Hill Rovers before joining Bilston United in January 1912. He signed for First Division West Bromwich Albion for £75 in April 1912 and twice won junior international honours in 1913 and 1917, making his Football League debut against Manchester United in October 1914 in place of the injured Alf Bentley. He made one further appearance for The Baggies in a defeat at Liverpool in March 1915, after which the onset of the First World War forced the suspension of peacetime football.

After the conflict he was sold to Southern League Newport County for £195 in July 1919, scoring 7 goals in 30 appearances for The Exiles, but stayed only a season at Somerton Park before returning to The Midlands to join Birmingham & District League club Walsall for £75 in July 1920. He scored 6 goals in 29 games for Walsall before injury forced him to retire from professional football in May 1921, although he then played for Darlaston and Stourbridge until April 1925. He later scouted for West Bromwich Albion from August 1945 to July 1952.
