Peterborough, Cambridgeshire born left back Tom Jeffs began his football career after the end of the First World War with Rugby Town, and signed for Third Division (South) Northampton Town in 1921, making his Football League debut against Watford that November. Jeffs became The Cobblers’ principal left back in his debut season and enjoyed his most productive season in 1922-23, making 34 first team appearances as Northampton Town finished 8th in the division.
However despite 29 appearances in 1924-25, Jeffs was never assured of his place, and he made 23 appearances in what proved to be his seventh and final season for Northampton Town in 1927-28 as they narrowly missed out on promotion, finishing runners up in the Third Division (South). After 160 appearances, during which he never scored a goal, he finished his professional career in 1928.
