JL Brennan played “with distinction” for the famous Dublin based amateur club Bohemians before the First World War and subsequently became one of the most senior officials in Irish football. He was Honorary Secretary of The Bohs from 1917 to 1925, a member of the Irish Football League Council from 1919 to 1920 and from 1921 when they were formed he was on the Councils of both the Irish Free State Football Association and the League of Ireland. Originally vice Chairman of the Football Association, he became its Chairman in 1924 and served until 1929, after which he served as its Honorary Secretary for a number of years. He was President of the League of Ireland until 1923 and it’s Honorary Secretary until 1931.
