Description

Centre forward John Clarke played for Glasgow Rangers in 1894 before moving to England and joining Lancashire League Fairfield in 1894, making his senior debut in an FA Cup qualifying round tie at Crewe Alexandra in November that year scoring a hat-trick in a 6-3 victory, however they went on to lose 11-1 at Sunderland in the next round (first round proper). He won the Lancashire League Championship that season and joined First Division Bury in April 1896, making his Football League debut that September at Sunderland.

After only 6 appearances that autumn he lost his place and was transferred to Blackpool in February 1897 scoring on his debut against Walsall and in each of his first four matches. He scored 6 times in 13 appearances for The Seasiders before joining newly elected Second Division club Luton Town in May 1897, however he only played once for The Hatters in their inaugural League season, against Arsenal in October 1897, before finishing his football career.
