Gillingham, Kent born goalkeeper Jack Beby played for Cuxton before joining Charlton Athletic’s books in 1924-25 without making their first eleven, after which he joined the Army, playing with The Grenadier Guards from 1925 to 1929. He then joined hometown club Gillingham in August 1929, making his Football League debut at Bournemouth on Boxing Day 1929 and making 20 appearances before being signed by First Division Leicester City in April 1930.
He had two seasons at Filbert Street making 30 appearances for The Foxes before he returned to Kent with Ashford Town in 1932, moving to Bristol Rovers for the 1932-33 season where he made 24 appearances. He joined Crystal Palace in 1933 making a solitary appearance before moving to Darlington in March 1934. He played 84 times for Darlington before joining Exeter City in March 1936 but he only made 10 appearances for The Grecians before joining non league Ashington in 1936, going on to play for Vickers Aviation and Shorts Sports before his eventual retirement.
He later managed AEK Athens, and had some success with them, between 1948 and 1951.
