Hull born outside left Billy Barraclough started his football career with Bridlington Town in 1926 and joined hometown Second Division club Hull City on amateur forms in the 1927 close season, making his Football League debut against Port Vale in January 1928 and making a further 8 appearances in the remainder of the 1927-28 season, before Wolverhampton Wanderers, with whom he turned professional, stepped in to sign him in 1928. He made his Wolves debut against Clapton Orient the same December but made only 3 appearances in his first season at Molineux, first establishing himself in the first team in September 1929.
He was part of the team that won the Second Division Championship in 1932, missing only two games in the campaign, and over seven seasons he made 183 appearances for Wolves scoring 19 goals. He joined Chelsea in October 1934 making 85 appearances and scoring 11 times over the next 3 seasons, he then joined Colchester United for £2,500 in August 1937 for their inaugural league season, playing 19 games and scoring twice, before ending his career with spells at Doncaster Rovers in August 1938, where he made 9 appearances before the Second World War, and Peterborough United, whom he joined after the War, his last club before his eventual retirement.
