Derby born goalkeeper Dan Allsopp began his football career with Derby Junction in 1891 and joined First Division Nottingham Forest in November 1892, making his Football League debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Christmas Eve. He soon took over from incumbent glovesman William Brown and was Forest’s number one choice until the turn of the century, making 233 appearances over eight seasons at the club.
He was in goal as Nottingham Forest won the 1898 FA Cup Final, defeating local rivals Derby County 3-1 at The Crystal Palace five days after having lost a League match 5-0 to the same opponents. He also featured in Forest’s 1900 FA Cup semi final team that lost in a replay to eventual winners Bury at Bramall Lane in extra time having gone 2-0 up in the first two minutes of the match. He retired at the end of the season.
