Description

Grimsby, Lincolnshire born outside left Wally Amos began his football career immediately after the First World War when he joined Grimsby Rovers in 1919 before moving to Midland League club Worksop Town in 1920, from where he joined Second Division Bury in May 1923, making his Football League debut against Southampton that August. He was an ever present in his debut season as Bury were promoted to the First Division in 1923-24 and remarkably missed only 8 games in ten seasons being ever present in four of those seasons, staying with the club after their relegation in 1929.

It was only from November 1933 that he was less than a virtual ever present in The Shakers’ line-up and his final two seasons at Bury saw him only play half of the games each season. By the time he joined Accrington Stanley in June 1935 he had scored 132 goals in 482 appearances. However he failed to make the first team at Accrington and moved into non league football with Stalybridge Celtic later in 1935.

He is Bury’s third highest goal scorer behind Craig Madden and Norman Bullock and the club’s second highest appearance maker behind Norman Bullock.
