Description

Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire born outside right George Baldry played for Humber United in 1934 before joining First Division Grimsby Town a year later, making his Football League debut at Preston North End in November 1935. He scored twice on Grimsby’s FA Cup run that saw them get to the semi final before being narrowly beaten 1-0 by Arsenal at Leeds Road, Huddersfield, and his 9 goals in 26 games in total for Grimsby was a good contribution with Baldry being heralded as a discovery.

However he moved to Hull City in May 1936 where he scored twice in only 5 appearances and failed to make an impression. A year later he joined Scunthorpe & Lindsey United before a move to Chelmsford City in 1938 was followed by a move to Shrewsbury Town in 1939. The outbreak of the Second World War later the same year effectively ended his career.
