Tipton, Staffordshire born half back William Bushell started with Cannock Town in 1899 before joining Aston Villa in August 1901, spending a season on Villa’s books without making a first team appearanceĀ but did win Birmingham League and Walsall Cup medals with them, before joining Dudley Town in August 1902. In June 1903 he joined Southern League Wellingborough, spending two seasons in Northamptonshire and scoring 3 goals in 59 appearances, before a move to Norwich City in May 1905, where he played in Norwich City’s first Southern League match.
He had five seasons in East Anglia, scoring 3 goals in 154 appearances, and joined Luton Town in July 1910. He scored 4 times in 74 appearances for The Hatters before moving to Croydon Common in the close season 0f 1912, where he played until football’s suspension due to the onset of the First World War at the end of the 1914-15 season, scoring once in 87 appearances and playing a further 25 wartime matches in 1915-16, appearing in Croydon Common’s last ever match. He also scored once for Brentford in 22 wartime games in 1916-17. He also represented the London Combination against Arsenal in the Champions v. The Rest match in May 1916.
