Description

Old Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire born wing half Archie Livingstone began his football career with Greenock in 1890 and played for Glasgow Whitefield in 1891 before joining Scottish League club Third Lanark in 1892. He moved south to join First Division Burnley in March 1893, making his Football League debut against Sheffield Wednesday at the end of the same month. He stayed a further seven seasons at Turf Moor, winning the Second Division Championship with them in 1897-98, but when they were again relegated in 1900 he left to join Lancashire League club Nelson after 3 goals in 181 appearances for The Clarets.

In August 1901 he returned to Football League action when he joined Second Division Burton United, scoring twice in 85 games over the next three seasons before joining Southern League Brighton & Hove Albion in 1904, for whom he made 26 appearances. A move to Norwich City the following year saw a seven year stay in East Anglia, scoring once in 118 appearances for The Canaries, whose reserve team he then managed, and by the time he joined his final club, Northamptonshire League Peterborough City, as player-manager in 1912 he was already 40 years old.

Livingstone was the older brother of international footballer George Livingstone.
