Possilpark, Glasgow born outside left Jimmy Caskie started his football career with Glasgow Ashfield in 1932 before joining St Johnstone in 1933. Noted as one of Scotland’s smallest professional footballers, he was described as “one of the trickiest wingers in football” and “elusive, fast, very clever, crosses perfectly”.
He played five seasons at McDiarmid Park where he played for The Scottish League in a 1-0 win over The Football League at Ibrox in September 1937, making a further appearance a year later against The Irish League in a 6-1 victory also at Ibrox. He joined First Division Champions elect Everton in the spring of 1939, making his Football League debut at Chelsea in April 1939, scoring in a 6-2 win over Sunderland in his second game of five for The Toffees.
However the outbreak of the Second World War forcing peacetime football’s abandonment soon intervened on his career during which he represented The Scottish League once again in 1941 and played 10 unofficial wartime internationals for Scotland between 1939 and 1944, scoring once, also playing as a wartime guest for Glasgow Rangers, St Mirren and Hibernian, before joining Rangers in 1945 at the end of the War. He scored 3 goals in 39 appearances for Rangers making his last appearance in September 1948, before he joined Forfar Athletic in 1949 and subsequently played for Berwick Rangers in 1951.
