Beith, Ayrshire born centre half Tommy Chalmers began his football career with hometown Scottish Football Combination club Beith, and after they won the competition in 1905 he was signed by First Division Notts County, making his Football League debut at Bury in March 1906, scoring his only career goal in a defeat at Preston North End the following month. Very much a fringe player during his four seasons at Meadow Lane, he made 13 of his 19 appearances in The Magpies’ 1906-07 campaign, before joining Midland League club Ilkeston United in 1909. He subsequently moved to Shirebrook in 1911 where he finished his career. His date of death is listed as 1918 so it’s probable he was killed during the First World War.
