Description

Paddington, London born right half Sid Chandler began his football career with Southall, from where he was signed by Aston Villa, spending 1925-26 on the books at Villa Park without making a first team breakthrough. He joined Second Division club Preston North End in the 1926 close season and made his Football League debut against Clapton Orient the same August, initially playing right half but from the end of October mainly playing at inside right, where he scored 11 goals during the campaign, missing only one match.

However he lost his place from the start of the following season and only got back into The Lambs’ team in November 1927, reverting to right half in February 1928. After 5 further matches for Preston he was signed by fellow Second Division club Reading in November 1928 after 12 goals in 67 appearances for Preston North End, and he remained a regular in The Royals’ line up until December 1930, indeed he was an ever present in their 1929-30 campaign as they struggled towards the foot of the table. But having lost his place he played in only 3 more matches, all 3 FA Cup ties and two replays as they went out to Crystal Palace in January 1931 before joining non league Canterbury Waverley later the same year after a single goal in 95 appearances for Reading.
