Langley Green, Shropshire born outside left Billy Corkindale began his football career with Wellington Town from where he was signed by Third Division (South) club Swansea Town in 1923, making his Football League debut against Norwich City that December. He was mainly a fringe player during three seasons at The Vetch Field, scoring twice in 18 appearances and playing only twice as they won the Third Division (South) Championship in 1924-25.
Corkindale joined Clapton Orient in the summer of 1926 where he immediately became a fixture in The O’s first eleven, scoring 18 goals in 102 appearances over the following three seasons. However he left the club following their relegation from the Second Division in the 1929 close season joining Millwall, where he was a regular during their 1929-30 campaign, where he was described thus “A capable wing man… a penetrative and tricky raider, Corkindale has also the knack of scoring from acute angles”.
But he lost his place in September 1930 and made just 3 further first team appearances before joining Luton Town in 1932 after 7 goals in 45 appearances for The Lions. However he found opportunities at Kenilworth Road very limited, Corkindale making just 2 first team appearances in the late autumn of 1932 before joining Birmingham & District League club Shrewsbury Town in 1933, where he saw out his career.
