Description

Hanley, Stafordshire born outside left Tommy Coxon began his senior career with local Second Division club Burslem Port Vale and made his Football League debut against Chesterfield Town in March 1903, making a further appearance before the season end. After scoring 4 goals in only 3 matches in October 1903, he was signed by First Division neighbours Stoke for £200, and scored in each of his first 3 matches for The Potters, but after 5 goals in 26 appearances for Stoke he joined non league Hanley Town in 1904.

He returned to Football League action joining Middlesbrough in September 1905, scoring once in 11 appearances for ‘Boro before returning to Burslem Port Vale in the 1906 close season, where he scored 12 goals in a further 41 appearances for Vale, again transferring to Stoke in the summer of 1907. He scored once in 12 further appearances for Stoke in 1907-08 and then moved to Grimsby Town in May 1908. He scored 6 goals in 63 appearances over the next two seasons but when Grimsby lost their League status in 1910 he left the club joining non league Cleethorpes Town, and then joined Southern League Leyton in 1911 for £50, the fee being fixed by a tribunal, before ending his career back on Humberside with Grimsby Rovers, joining them in 1912.
