Bucknall, Staffordshire born outside left Arthur Prince began his football career with local club Bucknall and was on the books at Crewe Alexandra in 1922 before signing for Second Division club Port Vale in October 1922, making his Football League debut against Blackpool in February 1923. He played 16 matches for Vale before the end of the season and the following season made a further 27 appearances before he was sold to Sheffield Wednesday for a £750 fee in May 1924. A regular in The Owls’ 1924-25 campaign, he scored 6 goals in 25 matches as The Wednesday finished as Second Division Champions. However he only played once in the top flight over the next two seasons, scoring in a draw at Leicester City in March 1928, before signing for Hull City that summer after 7 goals in 54 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday.
He played the first 5 matches of The Tigers’ 1928-29 campaign before being dropped, joining Cheshire County League club Chester in 1929 before a return to Football League action with Walsall later in 1929, but he only made one appearance for The Saddlers at Watford that October. He then joined Bristol Rovers in 1930 but failed to make a first team appearance, before finishing his career with non league Dorden Institute, who he joined in 1931.
