Aston, Birmingham born inside left George Savage began his football career with Willenhall Swifts before the First World War, and after the War he joined First Division club West Bromwich Albion, where he made his Football League debut against Bolton Wanderers in November 1921, also playing in the return fixture a week later at Burnden Park, his only two appearances for The Baggies.
Savage joined Third Division (North) club Wrexham in the 1922 close season where he initially played in the forward line before moving to centre half in November 1922, where he filled the role for the rest of the season. He was then a virtual ever present at left half for the next two seasons, missing only 3 matches, scoring his only League goal in a 2-2 draw with Doncaster Rovers in October 1923, before leaving The Dragons to join Birmingham & District League club Shrewsbury Town in the summer of 1925 after 117 appearances for Wrexham. He subsequently played for Alfreton Town in 1926 and Cradley Heath in 1927 before his eventual retirement.
