Description

Mexborough, Yorkshire born centre half Percy Beaumont began his football career with Mexborough Rovers in 1918 and after the end of the First World War joined First Division Sheffield United in May 1919, making his Football League debut against Blackburn Rovers that October. Although never a regular at Bramall Lane he managed 37 appearances during the first two post war seasons, scoring 3 goals, before a transfer to Second Division Barnsley in the 1921 close season.

He enjoyed five seasons at Oakwell and in his first season The Tykes narrowly missed out on promotion, finishing third, Beaumont making 25 appearances during the campaign. Having lost his first team place in 1925 he transferred to Southend United in the summer of 1926 after 7 goals in 150 appearances for Barnsley, making 32 appearances for The Shrimpers during a single season at The Kursaal, before returning to his home town with non league Mexborough Athletic in 1927.

NB in the photograph Beaumont appears on the right with Barnsley team mates George Donkin (left) and Ernie Hine (centre).
