Lintz, County Durham born left half Jack Rix began his football career with Lintz Colliery from where he was signed by Second Division club West Bromwich Albion in 1927, making his Football League debut in the last match of the 1927-28 season against Port Vale in May 1928. Almost exclusively a fringe player during his 12 years at West Bromwich Albion, Rix made only 3 more appearances in the following two seasons before winning a Second Division Championship medal in 1930-31 when he made 11 League appearances during Albion’s successful campaign.
He returned to a fringe role for three seasons before the most productive season of his career when he played 26 matches in their 1935-36 campaign, and in 1937-38 he played 15 matches as The Baggies suffered relegation back to the Second Division. 1938-39 was the first season in which Rix didn’t make a single appearance for Albion, and he then joined Lincoln City in the 1939 close season after 65 appearances for West Bromwich Albion, playing in their first 3 fixtures of the 1939-40 season before it was abandoned after the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, which effectively ended his career.
NB in the photograph he stands behind Albion centre forward Jimmy Cookson.
