Description

Jarrow, County Durham born right back or left half Danny Edgar began his football career with local junior club Jarrow St Bede’s from where he was signed by First Division club Sunderland in August 1930, but before he had made his first team bow he was moved on to Third Division (South) club Walsall that November, for whom he made his Football League debut against Thames Association in January 1931. He made 9 appearances for The Saddlers, playing at right back or inside right before the end of the season, when he once again signed for Sunderland in May 1931.

His Sunderland debut followed in a win over Bolton Wanderers in March 1932 at left half and he was a regular at left half in Sunderland’s 1932-33 campaign. But he lost his place in November 1933 and played only twice more for The Wearsiders before joining Second Division club Nottingham Forest in June 1935, by when he had made 46 appearances. At The City Ground he was a regular for three seasons and from December 1935 bedded in at right back, being ever present in their 1935-36 campaign and scoring his only career goal in a 2-1 win over Swansea Town in October 1937. But he lost his place in March 1938, probably through injury, and never played again for Forest having made 104 appearances for The Reds.
