Description

Sheffield born inside or outside left Frank Foxall began his football career playing for Roundel and for Wombwell Town in 1901 before joining Second Division club Doncaster Rovers in 1902, making his Football League debut at Manchester City in January 1903, scoring twice for Rovers in 12 appearances during the remainder of the season. The following summer Foxall moved on to Gainsborough Trinity, also of the Second Division, where he spent four seasons, scoring League goals at a rate close to one every three games, reaching double figures each season. In December 1905 he bagged four goals in a 12-1 FA Cup thrashing of Weymouth.

After 49 goals in 139 appearances, his consistency earned him a transfer to hometown First Division club Sheffield Wednesday in April 1907, The Owls being on the verge of winning the 1907 FA Cup Final. Foxall scored twice in 5 matches in what remained of the 1906-07 season, and after only 4 matches in the 1907-08 campaign he appeared more often in 1908-09 and 1909-10. In April 1910 he moved on to Second Division club Birmingham after 9 goals in 45 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday. Birmingham experimented with Foxall at inside forward with little success, and he soon returned to the wing, scoring 3 goals in 22 matches, but after a year with the club he moved on again, this time to Birmingham & District League club Shrewsbury Town in the summer of 1911, and later the same year he joined Willenhall Swifts, his final recorded club before his eventual retirement.
