Description

Widnes, Lancashire born inside right Jack Fryer began his football career with Runcorn, from where he was signed by First Division club Everton in May 1930, spending three seasons at Goodison Park without making their first eleven. In May 1933 he joined Third Division (North) club Wrexham, making his Football League debut at Darlington that September, scoring in a 2-1 defeat. However he only played twice more in his debut season before establishing himself in the first team from October 1934, and he was all but an ever present in The Dragons’ 1935-36 campaign when he scored 16 goals and was Wrexham’s second top goalscorer, missing only one match.

However he lost his place in October 1936 and joined Hull City in the 1937 close season, scoring 25 goals in 44 matches during a single season at Boothferry Park as The Tigers finished third in the Third Division (North), with Fryer joint top scoring with John McNeill. His goalscoring attracted Second Division club Nottingham Forest to sign him in June 1938 and he scored 8 goals in 23 appearances for Forest during 1938-39, however like so many others the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939 effectively ended his career.
