Description

Sheffield born centre half Edward Gillott began his football career with Sheffield Forge in the early 1920’s, from where he joined Third Division (North) club Lincoln City in 1924, making his Football League debut at Ashington in January 1925. A patient understudy to the likes of Frank Whitfield, Bob Fenwick, Joe Robson and Charles Foulkes, Gillott made a total of 14 (all League) first team appearances for The Imps over a four season period, his final appearance being at Darlington in January 1928 almost exactly three years after his debut.

His successive tally of matches per season was 4-5-2-3, with 1925-26 producing his greatest input, his final season when he made 3 appearances saw Lincoln finish runners up in the division, narrowly missing out on promotion which was only the reserve of the divisional champions, who that season were Bradford Park Avenue. Gillott moved to Midland League club Shirebrook in the 1928 close season and a year later joined fellow Midland Leaguers Scarborough, his last known club before his eventual retirement.
