Description

Bromborough, Cheshire born left back Jack Jones began his football career with Bebington in 1929, and played for Bromborough Pool in 1930 and Ellesmere Port Town in 1931, from where he was signed by First Division club Everton in March 1932, making his Football League debut against Leeds United in April 1934. He broke into the first team on a more regular basis in January 1935 but played his last match for The Toffees in April 1938, losing his place perhaps through injury having played 108 matches for Everton, and didn’t play at all in their League Championship winning team of 1938-39, the last peacetime season before the Second World War.

After the War Jones joined Sunderland in December 1945 and played in their 1946 FA Cup campaign and in their first peacetime season after the War, making a total of 31 appearances for The Wearsiders before his retirementement in 1947.
