Description

Dublin born right back Frank McGloughlin began his football career with Olympia in 1918 and played for Irish League club Shelbourne in 1919, moving to Wales in 1920 to play for Southern League club Pontypridd. From there he was signed by Second Division club Bradford Park Avenue in November 1921, making his Football League debut against Hull City the following month, but he couldn’t help save The Avenue from a second successive relegation. Used sparingly the next season in the Third Division (North), he made 28 appearances during their 1923-24 campaign, the most during his five seasons at Park Avenue, and scored his only goal for Bradford in a defeat at Darlington in September 1924.

Having lost his place in March 1925 he played only twice more for their first team, and after 80 appearances for Bradford Park Avenue, he joined Bristol Rovers in 1926 and spent 1926-27 on their books without making their first eleven, before returning to Ireland to join Irish League club Fordson’s, which would become C0rk F.C. later during his spell there. While with Fordson’s he was twice capped by the Irish Free State, making his international debut in a 3-1 victory over Belgium in Brussels in May 1930, and winning a further cap in a 5-0 defeat to Spain at Dalymount Park, Dublin in December 1931.
