Workington, Cumberland born left or right back Billy Huddart began his football career with Cleator Moor Celtic after the end of the First World War and won The Cumberland Cup with them in 1921. Signing for hometown North Eastern League club Workington that summer, Huddart played in 36 matches at right back for The Reds during their 1921-22 campaign, and after a further season he was signed by Third Division (North) club Barrow on amateur forms in April 1923, making his Football League debut against Hartlepools United that August.
Huddart played 36 times for The Bluebirds, predominantly at left back, and missed only 7 matches in Barrow’s 1923-24 campaign, playing the last 4 of these as an inside forward, and he scored his only goal in a 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the first in April 1924. His spell at Houlker Street lasted a single season, and in the summer of 1924 he joined Gateshead Town, before returning to play for Workington in 1926, his last recorded club.
