Penrhiwceiber, Rhondda born right half Jack Jones played junior football for Pentwyn Albion in 1929 and Penrhiwceiber in 1930 before joining Second Division Swansea Town in 1931, making his Football League debut against Burnley the same November.
His three seasons at The Vetch saw him score 5 goals in 34 appearances, before a move to Torquay United in 1934, where he was a near ever present for the next four seasons, scoring 8 goals in 170 appearances. At the time it was said of him that he “controls the ball well, opens up the game skillfully and tackles in earnest”.
In 1938 he joined Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic, scoring twice in 14 appearances at Dean Court in a single season spell before a move to Chester in the summer of 1939, however he hadn’t made a first team appearance for Chester before the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939 effectively finished his football career.
