Stenhousemuir, Stirlingshire born inside left Jock Hunter began his football career with Burnhead Hearts after the end of the First World War from where he joined Scottish League club Falkirk in 1920, He became a regular over seven seasons with Falkirk, scoring 41 goals in 199 appearances, having spent time on loan at Armadale in 1922. In 1927 he was selected as a member of a Scottish Football Association party which toured North America, but he never received a full cap for Scotland.
He transferred to Second Division club Reading in the 1928 close season and made his Football League debut against Middlesbrough that August, being ever present in his debut season, but eventually lost his place in January 1931 after 7 goals in 92 appearances for The Royals. He joined Irish League club Brideville and spent 1931-32 with them before a return to England to join Guildford City in 1932, his last known club before his eventual retirement.
