Description

Swansea born centre forward Dai James began his football career with Morriston junior side Midland Athletic from where he was signed by Leeds United in 1935, however he didn’t manage to make the first eleven at Elland Road. He joined Bradford City in 1936 and made his Football League debut against Swansea Town that September, one of five appearances he made for The Bantams that month before losing his place. In 1937 he moved on to non league club Mossley from where he was signed by Chelsea in April 1938, and although he didn’t appear for Chelsea’s first team in 1938-39, he came into their team for the first three matches of the subsequently abandoned 1939-40 season, scoring on his debut against Bolton Wanderers in August 1939.

However the outbreak of the Second World War a week later substantially affected his career, and after the War he joined hometown club Swansea Town in June 1947, where he scored 7 goals in 12 matches across their 1947-48 campaign before joining non league club Haverfordwest Athletic in 1948, his last recorded club before his eventual retirement.
