Description

Crook, County Durham born centre half Joe Kasher had played for Hunwick Juniors in 1912, Willington in 1913 and Crook Town in 1914 before the the onset of the First World War halted his football career, but after the conflict, already aged 25, he joined First Division Sunderland in 1919, making his Football League debut at Arsenal in September 1919. He established himself quickly but lost his place in September 1922, and after 90 Black Cats appearances he joined Stoke a month later. They were relegated at the end of the season, and Kasher played a further season for Stoke in the Second Division before joining North Eastern League club Carlisle United in 1924 after a single goal in 55 appearances. A year later he returned to the Football League with Accrington Stanley and he played two seasons in Lancashire, scoring twice in 49 matches for Stanley before calling time on his professional football career.
