Description

Ormiston, Lothian born goalkeeper Jimmy Kerr began his football career with Ormiston Primrose from where he signed for Hibernian in 1938, making his debut at Clyde that September. He made 43 appearances before the outbreak of the Second World War, and appeared for Hibs in 110 matches across the duration of the conflict despite his service in the Armed Forces, after which his good form for Hibs caused understudy George Farm to leave Hibs for Blackpool. It was said of him “He has given many fine displays and has been consistently in the running for international honours” although none were ever bestowed. He played his last match for Hibs in March 1952 by when he had played 155 peacetime matches for Hibernian. He moved to Queen of the South but doesn’t seem to have played for their first eleven and after his retirement he later served as a director of Hibernian Football Club.
