Larkhall, Lanarkshire born left half Archie Miller began his senior football career with Royal Albert in 1930, and joined Heart of Midlothian in 1932, making his debut for Hearts in the Wilson Cup Final at Easter Road on Boxing Day that year. He didn’t really established himself as a mainstay of the Hearts line up until 1937, but then won international recognition when he played in a 3-2 victory over Wales at Tynecastle in November 1938. He had also played two months earlier for The Scottish League in a 6-1 victory over The Irish League at Ibrox.
In 1939 he joined Falkirk but his career at Brockville Park was cut short by The Second World War, during which he also played for Hearts, and he returned to Tynecastle after the War, before joining First Division Blackburn Rovers in November 1947 having scored 23 goals in 128 Scottish League and Cup (peacetime) appearances, in addition to a significant number of wartime games for The Jambos. He made his Rovers debut at Liverpool on 22nd November 1947 but made only 6 appearances, playing in 5 defeats, before the New Year in what would be a relegation season for Blackburn. He returned to Scotland to join Kilmarnock in 1948, before joining Third Division Carlisle United in September 1950, making a single League appearance against Shrewsbury Town at Brunton Park the next month. Once again he returned to Tynecastle in 1951, but didn’t make any further first team appearances for Hearts, before finally finishing his career with a brief spell at Workington, joining them in February 1952 and making a single League appearance against Gateshead at the beginning of March, already aged 38.
