Sirhowy, Monmouthshire born goalkeeper Tom “Paddy” Lynch began his football career with Rhymney from where he signed for Third Division (North) club Rochdale in August 1929, making his Football League debut against Barrow that October. He was the principal goalkeeper during his two seasons at Spotland, making 59 appearances before a move to Colwyn Bay United in 1931.
In June 1932 he returned to Football League action with Barnsley, where he played 19 matches in their 1932-33 campaign, moving to Barrow in July 1934, where he was understudy to Tom Pickard and played only 4 matches. He returned to non league football with Yeovil & Petters United in the 1934 close season before being signed by First Division Brentford in 1935, where he was understudy to the ever present Jimmy Mathieson, and didn’t make the first eleven before a move to Watford in January 1937. However he only played twice for The Hornets as understudy to Jimmy McLaren, and joined Guildford City in the summer of 1937, going on to play for Bangor City in 1938 before his eventual retirement.
