Hednesford, Staffordshire born outside right Jack Maund began his football career with Hednesford Town from where he was signed by First Division club Aston Villa in October 1934, making his Football League debut at Preston North End in January 1936, scoring twice in 3 further matches before the season end during Villa’s relegation season. He played most of their matches the next season but only 13 matches in 1937-38 as they won the Second Division Championship, and he didn’t get back into their first team on their return to the top flight, joining Nottingham Forest in May 1939 after 8 goals in 48 matches for Aston Villa.
He had played all 3 matches of the 1939-40 season for Forest, scoring once, when the season was abandoned due to the outbreak of the Second World War, during which he played as a guest for Notts County, Walsall, Northampton Town, and Port Vale.and after the War’s resolution he initially rejoined Hednesford Town in 1945 before returning to Football League action with Third Division (North) club Walsall in October 1946, where over the next two seasons he scored 9 goals in 38 matches before his retirement in 1948.
