Elgin, Moray born right back (who could play both sides) Alan McRobbie began his football career with hometown club Elgin City, from where he joined Dundee in 1910. He only had a brief spell at Dens Park before moving on to Greenock Morton later the same year, and it was here that he came to First Division club Middlesbrough’s attention, who signed him in September 1911, McRobbie making his Football League debut and only appearance of the season against Notts County in February 1912. He made 7 further appearances for ‘Boro in 1912-13 before a move to Southern League club Swindon Town (one of several ‘Boro players to make the move) where he made 14 appearances in The Robins’ 1913-14 campaign, but he had only a single season at The County Ground before moving to North Eastern League club West Stanley in 1914.
With the onset of the First World War McRobbie returned to Scottish League football joining Aberdeen in September 1915, and he was on the books for four seasons at Aberdeen where due to his military service he played just twice in 1915-16 and 6 further matches in 1919-20. He finally joined Welsh League club Barry Town where he played until his retirement.
