Annbank, Ayrshire born inside forward (who played both sides) Jimmy Millar began his football career with hometown club Annbank, and was one of several skilled Scottish players brought to Sunderland by manager Tom Watson, which collectively became known as the ‘Team of All Talents’, signing for the Football League club in the summer of 1890, making his debut against Burnley that September. Millar was a regular goalscorer for Sunderland over the next six seasons, helping them to win The League Championship in 1891-92, 1892-93 and 1894-95. He was also a three time losing FA Cup semi finalist in 1891, 1892 and 1895 as well as being part of Sunderland’s team that won the “Football World Championship” when they beat Scottish League champions Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle in April 1895, before joining Scottish League club Glasgow Rangers in 1896.

While at Rangers he twice won the Scottish League Championship in 1899 and 1900, the Scottish Cup in 1897 and 1898 and a host of minor honours, and played three internationals for Scotland in 1897 and 1898, scoring twice, as well as representing The Scottish League three times during the same period. After 38 goals in 64 matches for Rangers, Millar returned to Sunderland in the summer of 1900.

Athough less prolific during his second spell on Wearside, he helped Sunderland to finish runners up in the League Championship in 1900-01, to win the title in 1901-02 and to finish third when defending the title in 1902-03. However Millar lost his place from the start of the next season and played only 5 matches over the course of the season before joining Second Division club West Bromwich Albion in the summer of 1904 after 127 goals in 263 matches during his two spells with Sunderland. At The Hawthorns he played just once, in a win over Burton United in October 1904, before joining newly elected League club Chelsea in 1905, but he never made their first eleven and retired from professional football.
