Larkhall, Lanarkshire born goalkeeper Willie Miller began his football career with Maryhill Harp, from where he was signed by Glasgow Celtic in May 1942. He made his debut against Hamilton Academical the following August, aged just 17. It was however Miller’s misfortune to be the final line of defence for some dismal Celtic sides and instead of winning trophies as his efforts deserved they often merely prevented humiliating defeats. Despite this Miller was an outstanding goalkeeper and was first selected for Scotland in a defeat to Wales at The Racecourse Ground, Wrexham in October 1946, winning 6 caps through to November 1947. Miiler was also selected 7 times for The Scottish League between March 1947 and November 1948.
Miller eventually lost his place to John Bonnar and was transferred to Clyde on 1st August 1950 after 265 Celtic appearances. At Clyde he finally won some silverware in the 1951-52 season winning The Glasgow Cup, Charity Cup, Supplementary Cup and the Second Division Championship Trophy. He played 51 times for Clyde before joining Hibernian in 1954, where he played 4 matches through to February 1955 before retirement.
