St Helens, Lancashire born right half William Molyneux had played for Alexandra Victoria and Heywood United before he joined Southern League club Norwich City in 1914, immediately prior to the onset of the First World War forcing the suspension of peacetime football in May 1915. After the War he joined Liverpool and spent 1919-20 at Anfield, for whom he’d played 7 times as a wartime guest in 1915-16, but made no further first team appearances, signing for newly elected Third Division (South) club Luton Town in the summer of 1920 and making his Football League debut in their second League fixture against Portsmouth in August 1920, thereafter a near ever present playing 40 matches in their debut season. He played his last game of 85 for The Hatters in September 1923, scoring once in a 2-2 draw against Millwall in December 1922, before joining non league Kettering Town in 1924, his last known club before retiring from the professional game.
