Description

After starting his football career with Grantham Rovers in 1894, Grantham born right half Tom Morris joined Second Division Gainsborough Trinity in 1897, for whom he made his Football League debut at Manchester City in September that year, before joining Southern League Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 1899, helping them to win The Southern League Championship in 1899-1900. He played 421 times for Spurs between his debut in 1899 and and his final match in a League fixture against Manchester City in April 1912 scoring 35 goals, including 24 in Southern League, League and FA Cup matches, which made up 331 of his total Tottenham outings.

He was a member of the 1901 FA Cup winning team when Tottenham became the first and only non Football League team to win the Cup beating Sheffield United in a replay at Burnden Park after a 2-2 draw in the first match at The Crystal Palace. He also played for Tottenham in their March 1902 victory over The Corinthians in the Sheriff of London Charity Shield, and in their inaugural Football League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers in September 1908. Morris played twice in North v South England international trials but never won a full international cap. After he retired he remained a member of the Tottenham ground staff until his death aged 67 on 25th April 1942.
